A Note from Michael Taubenslag – Theater Camp Director/Owner
When I designed Theater Camp 35 years ago, my main objective was to give the children a summer that they’ll never forget. I not only wanted to focus on building confidence and self-esteem in each camper, but I also wanted them to have as many fun-filled summer activities as possible. So, I scheduled all the rehearsals & performances in the mornings with swimming, games, and competitions in the afternoons! There are many other summer camps to choose from, but besides being the only theater camp that performs 9 shows in 8 weeks, what also sets us apart is our attitude. Our campers and staff feel and act as “family”. Many parents have told me that my Theater Camp is unlike any camp their child has previously attended. Our campers root for each other to succeed and help each other along in the process. My camp is all about building confidence and self-esteem; and my staff and I are dedicated to bringing out the best in children – teaching them to always try their best – by the end of the summer our campers know – “When you try your best, you can do anything”. We’ve seen our campers succeed each summer since 1990 and we don’t intend to stop! Join us this summer and see for yourself!
Award-Winning Theater Camp Perfect for All Kids!
We brought our award-winning Theater Camp to Middlesex County College and operated there for a highly successful 30 years. When the Covid19 pandemic closed camps, we were not able to open summer 2020. But this gave us an opportunity to find a new outdoor location that better fits the needs of providing the full-day camp experience families were asking for. We reopened summer 2021 at our NEW location, the Elks property, 375 Old Post Road in Edison. Since then we've added many more games and activities, including more swim time each day. We are the only THEATER CAMP to offer, “Theater all morning and FUN and games all afternoon”! Now we ONLY operate at the Edison Elks property, no longer at MCC. Our very popular program runs for 8 weeks for teens & kids entering 1st grade up to 16 years old. We provide a fun, safe environment where campers can learn about all aspects of musical theater with an emphasis on building their confidence and self-esteem – and all levels of experience or no experience at all are welcome!
Our focus is on building kids' confidence and self-esteem – using theater to teach kids how to break out of their shells, and become confident in public speaking and their everyday life. And it works! Our company won a national award for Best Children's Program in the US! Our Theater Camp was also honored by the New Jersey Senate, the New Jersey General Assembly & the Middlesex County Freeholders for Artistic Excellence for over 25 years of service to children in Middlesex County!
Our Theater Camp is also a welcoming place where all campers feel accepted and form life-lasting friendships. Our campers feel a sense of camaraderie at Theater Camp. Taubenslag Productions’ Theater Camp has both half-day and full-day sessions. We always recommend our full-day program to give kids a mixture of both theater and summer camp activities. It’s Theater in the morning and fun Camp activities and games in the afternoons. Also, by staying the full-day, Theater Campers are able to have even more fun with each other while competing for that week’s prize!

Seven Performances in Eight Weeks, Give All Kids a Chance to Shine!
During the first six weeks, campers will produce an elaborate musical production EACH WEEK! Weeks 7 & 8 are reserved for the annual “Broadway Spectacular”. Roles are provided for ALL CAMPERS in ALL SHOWS. Campers rehearse from 9 am to 12 noon, Monday through Thursday and perform their musical productions twice every Friday morning – shows are at 9:30 and 11 am. Shows are open to the public and we always have an excellent audience, ready to applaud and cheer BRAVO BRAVO!
Teenagers entering 8th grade thru 10th grade will rehearse their Teen Scenes plays for three weeks and present their shows on the third Thursday during the 1st & 2nd session.
Theater Camp is More Than Just Theater!
After lunch break, our afternoons are filled with tons of FUN camp activities, including swimming every day in the very large outdoor pool, scavenger hunts, charades, sing down, relay races, Carnival, Jersey Boardwalk, games, arts & crafts, theatrical workshops, dances, and much, much MORE! Theater Camp is divided into Upper (grades 6-9) and Lower (grades 1-5) Camp, so kids are grouped with their peers. During our last week of Session 3 we divide campers into two teams for our popular Color War and hold our Camp Prom!

Field Trip to Broadway!!
Our FIELD TRIP TO BROADWAY IS BACK . Our campers who enroll in Session 3 will enjoy a trip to Broadway NYC to see a show! Last year we saw Back to the Future The Musical. This year's Broadway show field trip will be The Wiz, starring Wayne Brady as the Wizard!

| 1:00 - 4:30 pm | Swimming, snack and fun-filled activities. All children are required to pass a swimming test at the beginning of each session. Swim period and afternoon activities are split into Lower camp (1st thru 5th grades) and Upper camp (6th thru 9th grades). Campers swim every day. While one group swims and snacks, the other is competing for the day's or week's activity (Carnival, Advertise Your Product, Singdown, Match Game, Family Feud, Music Video, etc) or attending workshops such as theater games, audition preparation, dance instruction, improv techniques, stage make-up, and arts and crafts. |

Fantastic Fridays
Fridays are truly fantastic at Theater Camp! First, our campers perform for an audience of parents, family, friends, neighboring camps, and peers. Two shows are held every Friday at 9am & 11am under our colorful BIG TOP – FULLY AIR CONDITIONED – PERFORMANCE TENT where all our shows are performed. After lunch, while half the camp is swimming and playing in our huge outdoor pool, the other half will have another chance to show off their talents during “OPEN MIC”. Singing, dancing, joke telling, poetry, and creating skits are just some of the ways our campers express themselves again in front of their peers.
Themed Cast Parties Every Friday Afternoon!
There's always a fun-filled cast party at the end of the day to celebrate the performance and cap off the week’s activities. Cast parties are complete with current music, club lighting, group dances and contests with prizes. And each week the cast party is themed, such as monster mash, rock star day, Halloween dance, pajama party, dress as your favorite superhero, beach bash party and Theater Camp prom. It all adds up to a summer camp experience full of excitement and fun!
Dates & Pricing
Sign up for Full-Day/Full Summer to save $200 over per session pricing. We always recommend our full-day program to give your kids the full summer camp experience. Or you can register by “Session” – with 3 sessions to choose from. We do not offer registration by the week – however we do offer “Add-on Weeks” to families who register for at least one full Session. For example, if you register for Session 2 then you can “add-on” any week from Session 1. Choose Session 3 and “add-on” any week from Session 1 or 2. You must register for at least one full session to get an add-on week. See registration page for add-on week pricing.
Payment Options: Pay by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) OR pay by bank/certified check. A surcharge of 3% will be added to all credit card transactions. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Registration is not completed until payment is received. Payment must be received prior to start date.
